Anthony Cichello, the firm’s Co-Managing Partner and co-head of its litigation practice, concentrates his practice in the areas of health care regulation and litigation, commercial litigation, and employment law.

In his health care and litigation practice, Tony provides regulatory and general counseling to non-profit and for-profit health care institutions, human service providers and to individual licensed practitioners. Tony’s clients span the health care continuum, including hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, assisted living, supportive housing and human service providers, as well as individual providers. Working collaboratively with organizational leadership, he addresses issue of governance, employment and compliance matters, survey and certification matters, licensing, credentialing and privileging disputes, peer review, HIPAA and privacy concerns, and labor and employment issues. Tony’s clients rely on the depth and breadth of his regulatory expertise to assess or avoid risk, develop and implement best practices, as well as support crisis management.

Tony represents providers in licensing and disciplinary matters before various boards of registration, as well as government and private insurers. Leveraging his regular interaction with regulatory agencies, Tony assists clients in identifying and addressing trends in regulatory oversight. He has substantial experience conducting internal investigations regarding employment, billing, potential false claims, compliance and ethics issues. He has guided clients through numerous investigations by state and federal regulators and through reporting and self-disclosure processes under self-disclosure protocols. He also offers support to his clients in engaging and educating their board leadership about complex regulatory or legal issues.

Tony litigates in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals, as well as before private arbitration panels. Tony’s practice also includes extensive experience in contract, construction, leasing, and general litigation matters. He co-authors The Litigators’ Blog on the Krokidas & Bluestein website, and has written about litigation and health care topics for the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and other publications.

In addition to his law practice, Tony is Chair of the Board of Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital — Milton, and former Vice Chair; former Chair of the Board of Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare, BI’s 200-provider community physician group. Tony served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Town of Milton School Building Committee throughout its $152 million school building construction program and served on the building committee that oversaw a $38 million renovation and expansion of BID-Milton hospital facilities. He is a former co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section’s Alternative Dispute Resolution committee. Tony is a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” in Litigation by Thomson Reuters since 2014.

Tony is a 1987 summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston College and a 1992 graduate of Yale Law School. Following law school, he was a law clerk to the Honorable Sylvia H. Rambo of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
