Elizabeth (“Bettina”) Toner joined Krokidas & Bluestein in 2022 and is a member of the firm’s Education and Employment practices. Bettina advises charter schools and other educational entities on organizational, policy, student services and employment matters. She also provides guidance to clients on employment law matters including wage and hour disputes, harassment, discrimination and retaliation.
In her over 20 years of practice, Bettina has represented both public entities and individuals in a variety of education, employment, discrimination, civil rights and other matters. Her education practice has included representing public school districts in student services and student discipline, as well as in special education matters. She has frequently appeared before the Massachusetts Bureau of Special Education Appeals, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the U.S. Office for Civil Rights. Bettina has also represented clients in a variety of complex civil rights cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Finally, she has presented and trained extensively on Title IX and First Amendment topics.
Before joining Krokidas & Bluestein, Bettina most recently practiced at Murphy, Lamere & Murphy, P.C. where she advised public school clients on education and litigation matters. Previously, she served for many years as a public interest litigation attorney representing individuals with disabilities and their families at the Center for Public Representation and the Disability Law Center.
Bettina is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts; and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She holds degrees from Skidmore College and Suffolk University Law School.
