Attorney Kathryn Murphy
(Boston, MA) September 12, 2021 – The Best Lawyers in America (28th Edition) has recognized Attorney Kathryn Cochrane Murphy of Boston-based law firm Krokidas & Bluestein LLP as a 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for her work in Real Estate Law. An additional five Krokidas & Bluestein attorneys were recognized as “Best Lawyers in America,” reflecting the firm’s depth of expertise in core practice areas: health care, real estate, litigation, labor and employment law.
Kathy has extensive experience in every aspect of commercial real estate transactions, representing developers, business and non-profit owners, governmental agencies and institutional lenders in acquisitions, dispositions, permitting, financings, design and construction contracts, procurement matters, leasing, ground leases, and condominium matters. Her practice includes structuring and carrying out legal aspects of complex, mixed-use developments, including the drafting and negotiation of development agreements and land disposition agreements on behalf of governmental and institutional landowners. Kathy has also drafted new ordinances and statutory provisions for governments and businesses.
She is a Fellow and a Past President of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a member and former steering committee member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Boston and a member of the Urban Land Institute. She is a former director of the Yale Alumni Fund, a former director of the YWCA Boston and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and an Honorary Trustee of the Boston Children’s Museum. Other memberships include the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, the Real Estate Bar Association, the Abstract Club, Lambda Alpha International and The Boston Club. She has served as a panelist on the ALI/CLE Modern Real Estate Transactions and Commercial Leasing courses and has contributed to the ABA Mortgage Foreclosure book and the State-by-State Guide to Commercial Real Estate Leases. Kathy graduated from Yale College, cum laude, and Boston College Law School, magna cum laude, and is a member of the Order of the Coif.
Kathy has been recognized as a Best Lawyer in Real Estate Law since 2014 and has also been named a “Massachusetts Super Lawyer” in Real Estate by Thomson Reuters since 2006. She received the CREW Leadership Award in 2011, and the 2013 CREW Network Impact Award. She has been a part of teams that received the CREW Networking Award in 2013, 2017 and in 2018. Kathy is listed in “Who’s Who Legal,” as a Real Estate Attorney 2012-2018.
Best Lawyers is recognizing six Krokidas & Bluestein LLP attorneys in its 2022 list of “The Best Lawyers in America.” In addition to Kathryn Cochrane Murphy, the list includes Jennifer Gallop, Paul Holtzman, Emily Kretchmer, Elizabeth Ross and Elka Sachs.
This is the third time in recent years that a Krokidas & Bluestein attorney has been named a Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers. Paul Holtzman was named 2016 Lawyer of the Year for his work in employment law, and Jennifer Gallop was named 2017 Lawyer of the Year for her work in health care law.
