July 23, 2024 (Boston) — Krokidas & Bluestein is proud to announce that a presentation by attorneys Bettina Toner and Eric Jordan, and their co-presenter Rhonda (Nikki) Barnes of KIPP Massachusetts, earned a second place ranking at the 2024 National Charter Schools Conference. Their presentation, “Secrets to Success: Effective Alternatives to Out-of-School Suspension,” earned scores of 4.9/5 and 5/5 for all five session evaluation categories, ultimately ranking second overall among approximately sixty presentations conducted at the Conference.
The presentation focused on best practices to optimize alternatives to out-of-school suspension in public charter schools, provided the historical landscape of the use of out-of-school suspension in U.S. public schools, including short- and long-term effects of out-of-school suspension, and discussed how best to apply suspension alternatives in public charter school operations.
